In short: Sourcing from Bangladesh works best in seven steps — brief, quotation, sampling, order confirmation, production, inspection and delivery. Most first orders take about 3–5 months from brief to arrival, depending on the product, the materials and how quickly samples are approved.
Bangladesh is one of the world's largest exporters of ready-made garments and has a growing leather goods industry. For German brands, retailers and corporate buyers it offers competitive pricing, large production capacity and long experience with European quality expectations. What makes the difference is not the country — it is how well the process is prepared and followed.
1. Write a clear brief
A good brief saves weeks. Describe the product, the target price range, the expected quantity per style and colour, and the date you need the goods in Germany. Add photos, sketches or a reference sample — even a product you like from the market helps.
- Product type and intended use
- Materials you want (or want to avoid)
- Quantity per style, colour and size
- Target delivery date and destination
- Labels, packaging and any certificates you need
2. Get a realistic quotation
A useful quotation states the unit price, the minimum order quantity (MOQ), the sampling cost, the lead time and the delivery terms (for example FOB or DDP). Compare quotations on the same basis — a low FOB price can end up more expensive than a DDP price once freight, duty and handling are added.
3. Sampling: approve before production
Samples turn a description into a physical product. Typically there is a first prototype, then a fit or size-set sample, and finally a pre-production sample. Never start bulk production without a written approval of the pre-production sample — it is the reference for all later quality checks.
4. Confirm the order in writing
The purchase order should repeat everything that was agreed: approved sample, materials, colours, size breakdown, labels, packaging, price, payment terms, delivery terms and the agreed production timeline.
5. Follow production
Production is easier to steer than to repair. Regular status updates with photos at key milestones — materials in house, cutting, sewing, finishing and packing — show early when something drifts off track.
6. Inspect before shipment
A pre-shipment inspection checks a random sample of finished goods against the approved sample: measurements, workmanship, colour, labels and packing. Problems found before shipping can still be fixed; problems found in your warehouse are expensive.
7. Ship and import
Sea freight from Chattogram to Hamburg or another North European port usually takes several weeks; air freight is faster but much more expensive. Make sure commercial invoice, packing list and origin documents are correct — they decide how smoothly customs clearance goes.
